Parts 2 and 3 are available now!

A wanderer lost in a strange world cannot remember his past and everyone he encounters has their own idea of his purpose. He emerges from grey, desolate expanses only to find a land as forlorn as the waste he left. There, the Traveler is launched into the heart of an ancient and rising conflict. In the Monastery of Sherushae, the ultimate burden is laid upon his unsteady shoulders, and he must set himself against a dark power bent on the destruction of all things.

The Book of Iden is a new epic fantasy set in a rich and complex world. Readers are treated to a cast of unique characters that are faced with the challenges of life in a harsh and hostile world. What sets the Book of Iden apart above all else is the complexity of its tone. Simultaneously stark and colorful, the land of Iden is a lavish world hanging on the edge of chaos.

The Traveler The Book of Iden 1 edition by Brendan Lyons Literature Fiction eBooks

I've never been interested in this genre of fiction, but The Traveler came highly recommended, so I gave it a shot. I was doubtful that the book could hold my attention, but as the main character developed and the story unfolded, I found myself eager to continue reading! I enjoyed the author's writing style and use of descriptive language. He writes in a way that endears the characters to the reader and makes you care about their stories. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I can't wait to get started on Book 2!

The Traveler The Book of Iden 1 edition by Brendan Lyons Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was looking for a new epic fantasy to read and The Traveler certainly didn't disappoint! This book has a little bit of everything- fantasy, adventure, comedy, tragedy, romance. The tale is complex and rich, with plenty of twists and turns. I can't wait to read Book 2!
As a parent of teenagers I was captivated by the magnitude of "vocabulary words" used in the first chapter of The Traveler. The author maintains a high intensity of details throughout the book. The mystery of the Wanderer's beginning and the importance of his mission becomes vital to wanting him to succeed. This Traveler can teach you Patience is a virtue in your own journey of life.
You may think you've read this book before as the author clearly loves good fantasy such as Tolkien, Lewis or, more recently Christopher Paolini's Eragon but you haven't. The author tells an engaging story with real detail and interesting characters. There are interesting twists and an ending that compels you to read the next book. My teenagers and young adult children all enjoyed (as did I)!
I really enjoyed reading this. The first thing that impressed me about this book was the world building. Constructing a new setting with its own set of cultures, histories, and magical systems is a difficult but important task for any fantasy writer, and Brendan Lyons does it very skillfully, providing an expert balance of description and pacing, revealing information as it becomes relevant to the story rather than dumping it all at once. Second, the protagonist was very well-done, a character that you wanted to root for as you struggled along with him to uncover his mysterious past. This was a richly crafted story, and I can't wait to read the next installment.
Here's the deal. The Traveler has that one indispensable ingredient you care about the guy. I call this The Travis McGee Effect. It's really exciting to see a new author gather his feet under him and start to move. I just hope the author is not an old guy, 'cause I hate it when authors who supply my favorite characters (writers like John MacDonald; Roger Zelazny; Robert Heinlein) die, and leave me wanting more. If you care about the character, you don't need nothin' else! If you don't care about the character, nuthin' else is any good anyway! Keep On Travelin'!
C.S. Lewis meets J.R.R. Tolkien in Lyons' writing and creative storytelling. I couldn't put "The Traveler" down and cannot wait to find out what adventures these characters, whom I have grown to know and love, will undergo next!
